Safety tips

Simple habits that stop most vehicle scams.

Before you pay

  • Never pay an advance or "token money" before you have seen the vehicle and its documents in person.
  • Be careful with prices far below the market. Compare with similar ads and our price guides.
  • Do not share OTP codes, bank PINs or CNIC photos over chat or phone.
  • Keep the conversation on WheelMela chat. Scammers often push to move to WhatsApp quickly.

Meeting the other person

  • Meet in a busy public place in daylight, such as a petrol station or a bank branch car park.
  • Take a friend or family member along.
  • For a test drive, ride along and keep the keys when you park.

Checking the vehicle

  • Match the engine and chassis numbers with the registration book or smart card.
  • Verify the registration and token tax status on your province's excise website or app.
  • Get the vehicle inspected by a mechanic you trust. For imported cars, ask for the auction sheet.
  • Check for accident repairs: uneven panel gaps, paint differences and replaced parts.

Paying and transferring

  • Prefer a bank transfer or pay order so there is a record. Avoid carrying large amounts of cash.
  • Complete the transfer at the excise office with both parties present, or use the official biometric process.
  • Get a signed sale agreement with both CNIC numbers, the price, date and vehicle details.

Selling safely

  • Do not hand over the vehicle or original documents until the payment has cleared in your account.
  • Fake payment screenshots are common. Check your bank app, not the buyer's phone.
