How this calculator works

Speed is converted to m/s. Reaction distance is speed times reaction time; braking distance is speed squared divided by twice the effective deceleration.

Checked example

Example: 60 km/h, 1.5 s reaction and 6 m/s² deceleration gives 25 m reaction plus about 23.15 m braking, or 48.15 m total.
